The program, known as Storm-2035, employed ChatGPT to produce material on subjects like analysis of the candidates in the US elections, the situation in Gaza, and Israel's participation in the Olympics.

According to OpenAI, there doesn't seem to have been any significant audience involvement with the operation.

  • Washington: OpenAI announced on Friday that it had removed an Iranian group's accounts for using its ChatGPT chatbot to produce information intended to sway the outcome of the US presidential election and other matters.
  • The operation, known as Storm-2035, created content using ChatGPT on subjects like the Israeli delegation to the Olympics, the situation in Gaza, and the opinions expressed by candidates in the US elections. The content was then disseminated through websites and social media accounts.
  • The Microsoft-backed AI company's investigation revealed that ChatGPT was utilized to produce longer social media comments and longer articles.

According to OpenAI, there doesn't seem to have been any significant audience involvement with the operation.

The organization did not observe any signs of web articles being spread across social media, and the majority of the recognized social media posts received little to no likes, shares, or comments.

The accounts are no longer permitted to use OpenAI's services, and the business claimed that it is keeping an eye on activity to spot any more efforts to break the rules.

The Iranian network Storm-2035, which consists of four websites acting as news outlets, is aggressively engaging U.S. voter groups on opposing ends of the political spectrum, according to a Microsoft threat-intelligence analysis published earlier in August.

Conclusion

"Politicalizing messaging on issues such as U.S. presidential candidates, LGBTQ rights, and the Israel-Hamas conflict" was being used to build involvement, according to the research.

Ahead of the presidential election on November 5, Democratic contender Kamala Harris and Republican opponent Donald Trump are engaged in a fierce contest.

The artificial intelligence company said in May that it had thwarted five secret influence operations that aimed to employ its models for "deceptive activity" online.
